Ve3tro Public Address
July 18, 2008 - The Problem
Hello readers, this is Dillon Andrews writing on behalf of Ve3tro.com. Now as you’re well aware, it is very hard for a website to stay consistent with its growth and success levels, and up to this point Ve3tro.com has been on a constant inclination. Now you’re probably asking, “what’s wrong with that?”. Nothing is wrong with it, but we as a whole have no identity on the internet. There are no characteristics of Ve3tro.com that are relatable to the readers that make them want to stay loyal to our website.
We’ve long wanted to shed this sterile, inhumane image that we have but it’s pretty impossible when we merely throw up press releases each day. As a collective unit, the Ve3tro faculty have been drawing up conclusions on what would help create character and a likeness for the site. The first step towards the new Ve3tro was aligning ourselves with the new Ve3tro member, owner of 2opgaming.org, Sarkis. It was through him that we brought you some of the floor news from the biggest gaming convention in the world.
This of course wasn’t merely enough as the news was not exclusive–it was posted on 2opgaming.org before or around the same time. So while we could say that we brought the news forward, it wasn’t ours to claim and be proud of. In the meanwhile we cut back this week on the press releases and direct messages from the PR firms and noticed an immense decline in traffic. Again we look around scratching our heads, wondering to ourselves what we can do to make the site more successful and more rewarding for our readers.
Solution + What to Expect in Upcoming Months
Interviews
I’ve been on the hunt for some people to interview that’d mean good reading. I’ve managed to find a few and will be interviewing Chris Simmons of Digital Unrest Comics! He will be the first of many Ve3tro Exclusive interviews.

Update on the Forums
Now a while ago we promised to be bringing forums to fruition here on Ve3tro.com. We made the claim that said forums will be integrated into your Ve3tro accounts–which you use to comment and post on articles–and some discussions were sparked. Weeks passed and nothing appears to be happening, so I thought I’d leave a little update. There have been some problems with finding forum software that will easily integrate with our Wordpress Blog. We want the boards to look, feel and work the same meaning that you can use your account for both aspects of the site. This obviously is frustratingly hard and many technical–and ironic problems have arisen from this matter. We hope that they are finished soon so that you can make Ve3tro your community.
Press Releases
Obviously a vast amount of our readers strive on these press release posts that we often do. We’ve kind of taken the phrase; “Quality not Quantity” and took it to heart. Before we’d try and get as much content on the site as possible, but as pointed out by a few people… there wasn’t much worth reading. One would have to sift through pages of material to find a few hidden gems of information. This isn’t what we want to put our viewers through, so we’ve created a new Press Releases page on the top navigation column.
While not functioning yet, we intend of having it host all of our future posts which you’ll be able to find just as easily as before, while not cluttering the front page. Once again, technology laughs at us as Wordpress Blogs do not support multiple pages containing posts. Reece is working on it and trying to find away around our problem.
So there you have it. That’s what we’ve been dealing with, and that’s what will be keeping us busy in the next few months. Hopefully our issues resolve and we can continue being your source for video game journalism.
Thanks for your support,
Ve3tro.com

i think the site is doing great i visit it quite a few times every day and its second in my favorite gaming sites behind ign maybe if you guys catered to all gaming fans and werent biased more people would join.
for example i ask reece all the time to get some stuff about thq games and sport games but because he doesent like them he denys us the chance to see them.

I think I’m the one who’s rather cynical out of the staff. It’s me who usually brings the biased feel to the articles, but I can’t help it. I’m rather vocal on what’s bothering me about the games/companies and think that if you agree–good, if not then feel free to voice your opinion like you did.
Discussions are what I want on the site, especially once the forums come round.
Btw, I’ll try getting more sports/THQ titles on the site. They’ve got lots of stuff coming down the pipes that’ll surely generate discussion sooner or later.

Yea, you guys better be covering NHL 09. Anyway, I bothered reece about the forums long ago, way back in like march. He said they would be up by the end of april. I have given up on the forum. I do still come here every day, just like I have been since 04…

John, please be patient with that, the space has been officially created for the forums. Reece has lost access to the FTP however now that he’s in Spain and can’t upload the PHP files to the directory. This is one of those ironic problems as we were almost set to start working on them when he decided to head back to Spain.
I’ve been nagging him to let me just go in and set up the boards without the template and account integration at the moment–I don’t feel that it’s that important anyways. Hopefully I will be able to persuade him as I’ve been able to recruit about 5 really active and amazing posters who will bring the community to life.
We appreciate you coming around JohnDoe!
